What is covered by the travel disruption extension?

Please do remember that the following will only apply if you have upgraded your policy for an additional premium by choosing the Travel Disruption add-on.

What is extended cancellation or cutting your holiday short cover?

If your trip was cut short or cancelled as a result of government advice, we’ll help cover unused travel and accommodation costs. We’ll pay you up to a maximum of £500 (unless upgraded) for Basic cover or £5,000 for Comprehensive cover per insured person.

What is extended travel delay and enforced stay cover?

If your departure is delayed for any reason for more than 12 hours (at any departure point connecting the UK to your overseas destination), or on your return journey, we will cover either:

£20 for the first completed 12 hours delay and £10 for each full 12 hours delay after that, up to a maximum of £100 provided you eventually continue the trip.

Up to £1,000 for any irrecoverable unused accommodation and travel costs (and other pre-paid charges) which you have paid or are contracted to pay because you were not able to travel and use your booked accommodation because the scheduled public transport on which you were booked to travel from the UK is cancelled or delayed for more than 24 hours, as long as you still go on the remainder of the trip.

Up to £1,000 for additional accommodation (room only) and the necessary travel expenses used to reach your overseas destination. Or returning to the UK because of public transport being cancelled, delayed for more than 24 hours or diverted/redirected after take off.

What is additional overseas accommodation and repatriation cover?

If any of the following affect your accommodation or the resort you’re staying at:

    • Terrorist event
    • Fire
    • Flood
    • Earthquake
    • Explosion
    • Tsunami
    • Landslide
    • Avalanche
    • Volcanic eruption
    • Snow
    • Hurricane
    • Storm
    • Outbreak of food poisoning or an infectious disease

We will then pay up to £1,000 for either:

  • Any irrecoverable unused accommodation costs and other pre-paid charges which you have paid or are contracted to pay because you were not able to travel and use your booked accommodation

Or

  • Additional accommodation (room only) and travel expenses necessarily incurred up to the standard of your original booking, if you need to move to other accommodation on arrival or at any other time during the trip because you cannot use your booked accommodation. Or with our authorisation we will repatriate you home because it is necessary to cut your holiday short.
